VPN Connectivity

NetPilot 3, with its accredited virtual private network functionality, uses standard IPSec protocols with 3DES encryption, to form part of an Internet based VPN. It also offers CIPE and OpenVPN for NetPilot to NetPilot connections.

Secure VPN tunnels across the Internet can interconnect NetPilots at differing office locations.

In addition, roving sales or support personnel, or home office users can dial into their nearest POP and connect to their central office for the price of a local call. NetPilo t3 comes complete with OpenVPN which allows unlimited number of free remote clients or optionally Safenet VPN clients can be purchased for remote connections using IPSec.

Unified Threat Management Options

NetPilot reduces complexity and protects users from multiple internally and externally generated threats by combining multiple protection measures into a single appliance.

To offer complete piece of mind, NetPilot 3 can be upgraded with 12 months subscription to all the total protection security options for unified threat management. This includes: anti-virus, anti-spam, email policy controls, advanced firewall, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and UR L content filtering.

The intrusion detection system detects attacks or looks for behaviour on the network that is unusual or against acceptable use policies. It also provides an audit trail to show how the attack occurred, from where and how far it went. Once something unusual has been detected, the intrusion prevention system can be configured to automatically communicate with the NetPilot advanced firewall to block potential future exploits

Anti-virus capabilities are powered by market leader Sophos, offering a gateway anti-virus scanning of all incoming, outgoing and internal emails, together with all website downloads.

Anti-spam facilities ensure your staff are not inundated with useless and time -consuming emails.

Email policy controls give the administrator even greater scope to create more extensive rules to deal with email customized to your organisation's needs.

URL content filtering, offers a complete control of all browsing activities. This service can be profiled for individual users or user groups, ensuring porn and all other undesirable content is blocked.

Advanced Firewall

Equiinet offers two firewalls: the standard firewall and a licensable advanced firewal. The standard firewall offers excellent security that is powerful, yet easy to administer. The advanced firewall is for those with good technical knowledge who want to construct more detailed rule sets.

The advanced firewall uses powerful stateful packet inspection techniques. To provide the best security, a firewall must track and control the flow of communications. Unlike rudimentary packet filters found in cheap personal firewall products, NetPilot's stateful inspection analyses information flow into and out of a network so that security decisions can be made in real time. It accomplishes this by tracking the state and context of all communications traversing the firewall, even when the connection involves complex protocols.

The advanced firewall also offers the flexibility to allocate particular services and define protocol attributes to particular physical ports. In this fashion, multiple WAN, LAN, DMZ and other ports can be configured.

Both of NetPilot's firewalls have undergone rigorous independent testing from West Coast Labs and have been awarded Checkmark accreditation.

Controlled High Speed Web Access

NetPilot 3 enables multi-user Internet access through a range of high-speed communications options. It has powerful, yet flexible control facilities to administer local access of external resources, including user restrictions, web access control, web filters and time controls. Some groups or individuals may have rights assigned to use only email, or just web browsing. Which web sites are accessed by which users can be controlled ranging from a very restricted set of web addresses with no general browsing capability, to fairly widespread rights, with perhaps the exception of pornographic sites.

Total Email Solution

NetPilot 3 can act as a company-wide email server. Incoming and/or outgoing emails can be automatically copied or redirected. Email footers can be automatically appended as the email is transmitted externally.

For complete flexibility, NetPilot 3 can be set to act as a gateway to another internal mail server such as Microsoft Exchange.

Web Page Caching

To save bandwidth and speed up response time, Equiinet introduced caching. This allows popular web sites, pages or parts of pages to be stored locally in NetPilot 3 and to be viewed subsequently by other users without reconnecting to the Internet, unless the content has changed.

Intranet

Web pages can be served directly from the NetPilot 3. Company-wide or department-wide information can be kept up-to-date on an internal 'Intranet' site residing on NetPilot 3. This information can either be enabled or disabled from any outside access.

File and Print Serving

NetPilot 3 can also act as a file server for local LAN PC users with Microsoft Windows. In addition, there is a parallel port for centralised print server functionality. The printer attached to NetPilot 3 is mapped to each local LAN PC and each PC can then independently spool print files into a NetPilot 3 maintained print queue. Again this removes the need for a dedicated print server or printer-sharing device.

Easy to Install

NetPilot 3 is very straightforward to install and extremely easy to use. The network administrator is provided with a 'Quick Configuration' utility, which is accessed through a browser interface to NetPilot 3. A simple menu-based dialogue then provides all the necessary information for automatic configuration, enabling online connectivity within minutes.

Ongoing Management

NetPilot 3 monitors and reports on a range of activities including online time, the number of incoming and outgoing emails by user, web usage by time of day and firewall rejects. These reports can be automatically collated and sent as a daily email to a system supervisor.

Upgrades and support

Software updates can be automatically downloaded from the NetPilot upgrade service site. Support staff can check the operation of NetPilot 3 remotely and make online changes if necessary.
