New NetPilot Product Range - FAQs

Q: WHAT'S THE KEY BENEFIT OF NETPILOT?
A: It's a total security solution in one box – cutting complexity and saving money.

Q: WHAT DOES THE TERM 'UTM PREMIUM' MEAN?

A: UTM Premium is our terminology for its enhanced UTM facilities for NetPilot Vanguard and Globemaster. This pack includes all the security elements available from us, except SSL VPN Plus and has the most Checkmark accreditations of any product available.

Q: WHAT DOES THE TERM 'UTM STANDARD' MEAN?

A: UTM Standard is our terminology for its key UTM facilities and is available for all NetPilot models. It is designed for users who don't need all the advanced features offered by UTM Premium. Note: the UTM Standard pack has AV based on Clam, whereas the UTM Premium pack uses Checkmark accredited Sophos.

Q: WHICH UTM PACKS COME BUNDLED WITH NEW NETPILOT PRODUCTS?
A: NetPilot Vanguard UTM & Globemaster UTM comes with a 12-month's UTM Premium subscription. The NetPilot Guardsman UTM comes with a 25 user UTM Standard subscription.

Q: WHAT IF I WANT NO UTM – I JUST WANT A SMALL OFFICE FIREWALL/VPN UNIT?
A: All NetPilot models are now available at base units offering standard Firewall / VPN functionality. All UTM, as well as single applications such as Anti- Virus can be purchased separately for most models. SSL VPN Plus can be added to any NetPilot platform.

Q; WHAT IS AN SSD?
A: All new NetPilot models feature Solid State Storage (SSD). This technology is set to replace the traditional hard disk (HDD) and provides significant benefits over HDD. NetPilot is the first UTM appliance to incorporate SSD technology. SSDs are approximately ten times more reliable than hard disks and consume considerably less power. At the same time SSDs read and write data at two or three times the speed of hard disks. This means that the new NetPilots use less power and have much better performance than older models.

Q: WHAT IS SSL VPN PLUS?
A: SSL VPN Plus is 3rd Generation SSL technology built into every NetPilot and activated by purchasing the appropriate licence key. SSL VPN Plus from Neoaccel provides remote access to the network from any remote computer anywhere in the world. Many other vendors offer SSL VPN but NetPilot is the only UTM appliance available with Neoaccel SSL VPN Plus. This means a much faster (up to 70 times faster) robust and more secure connection.

Q: IS SSL VPN PLUS TECHNOLOGY SECURE?
A: Neoaccel SSL VPN Plus technology provides all the advanced security features available in the best SSL solutions and more. Endpoint security checks occur throughout the session and not just at start-up. Combined with Data leakage Prevention (DLP) techniques and support for RSA, Citrix, reverse proxy, RADIUS and AD you can be confident that whether you connect from an Internet Café, Smartphone or a corporate workstation or laptop that your session is secure.

Q: ARE THERE ANY TRADE UP DEALS AVAILABLE?
A: NetPilot Internet security will always have a promotion to enable new and existing customers who have older equipment to purchase the latest NetPilot model. Please check www.netpilot.com for details of current deals.

Q: ARE THERE 'NUMBER OF USER' LIMITATIONS WITH STANDARD AND PREMIUM UTM PACKS?

A: Yes. The licensed numbers of users for various products is shown in the chart overleaf. If you need to attach more users, contact NetPilot Internet Security for costs.

Q; MY ISP CHECKS FOR VIRUSES – WHY SHOULD I RUN ANTI-VIRUS ON A NETPILOT?
A: ISPs cannot check for HTTP browser-borne viruses or emails between colleagues on the same site, nor email from additional ISP accounts you may have – whereas NetPilot can! Furthermore, most ISPs don't check for spyware and none check for intrusions.

WHAT ARE SOFTWARE & FIRMWARE UPDATES?
Users, who do not subscribe to any UTM pack, should subscribe to Software & Firmware upgrades to obtain the latest operating system updates.

HOW DOES UTM PREMIUM BLOCK SPYWARE?
Firstly, it uses URL filtering to ensure you don't browse sites that are known to infect PCs. Secondly, NetPilot stores identities of Spyware and blocks them in the same way it blocks viruses. NetPilot updates the databases of Spyware and Virus identities automatically.
